You can link this egg carton worm craft to a recycling theme or a worm/creepy crawly theme. A great go-along book is Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. You will need: empty egg carton, poster paints, pipe cleaners, black marker.

Cut a length of carton off so that you have a few humps.

Let your toddler paint the worm in the different colours of poster paints.

When the paint is dry, help them to draw the eyes and mouth on one end.

Make two holes about the eyes and thread one pipe cleaner through the holes so that it is equal in length on both sides. Twist it to represent the antennae.

If you are not too squeamish why not go and look for some real earthworms outside. Encourage your toddler not to hurt them but just to watch them about their business.

Be careful when turning over stones as spiders and scorpions live under stones.
