These Christian Easter crafts for kids are to cement in them the reason why we celebrate Easter or rather Jesus’ death and resurrection. In our home we prefer to focus more in Him who came to give His life as a ransom for many. We have never done Easter egg hunts or told our little ones about a fictitious Easter Bunny. The goal of these activities is to help you toddler understand how much Jesus loves him/her and to show them that His love was so big that He chose to die for them. I know this is a big idea, but children’s spiritual receptors are much larger than most give credit for.

Choose a really good Children’s Bible Storybook and head into our Christian Easter crafts for kids.

Jesus loves the little children

(All Ages)

Sing the song “Jesus loves the little children” to your child. Sing it when driving in the car, when you are walking together, brushing hair and tying shoelaces. If you don’t know the rhyme, listen to it here

Read them the Bible story found in Matthew 18 where the disciples ask Jesus: “Who is the greatest in God’s Kingdom?” and He answers: “This child is!” Help your child to make a large red heart out of cardstock. Paste a photo of them in the centre and write around the heart – JESUS LOVES ME.

Let the little children come to me

(All Ages)

Read the story to your toddler about when Jesus asked the disciples to let the children come to Him, found in Matthew Chapter 19:13. He says “The Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Let your child make a crown out of gold (or yellow) card. Stick fake jewels onto it or use glitter glue to decorate it. Tell your little one as they wear it, that they are princes and princesses because Jesus is their King and He has made a way to own the Kingdom of Heaven.

Donkey Colouring in page

(Guidelines 1-1-3)

donkey Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. Have you ever seen donkey’s back?

If possible take your child to a place where you can see a donkey and look carefully to see the cross on its back. The long part of the cross runs from its neck to it tail and the short part across its shoulder blades.

Isn’t this amazing? God saw fit to mark this humble creature for eternity to show that it carried His Son.

Ice lolly stick cross

(Guidelines 1-1-2)

Read the story of Jesus’ death to your little one. Purchase or collect ice lolly sticks. Using coloured markers allow your child to decorate their cross. Glue them sticks together to form a cross. Together say a prayer thanking the Lord Jesus for dying for you so that you can have eternal life.

Jelly bean poem

(Guidelines 1-1-2)

This idea has floated around the web for years and if I could give credit to the creator of it I would. It is a lovely visual way to remind little ones about that Jesus loved them so much that He was willing to lay down His life for them. You will need a bag of different coloured jelly beans and one cup or Ziploc bag per child taking part in this activity. Read this poem to them allowing them time to take a jelly bean of matching colour and place it in their cup or bag.

Red is for the blood He gave.
Green is for the grass He made.
Yellow is for the sunflowers so bright.
Black is for the dark of night.
White is for the grace He gave.
Orange is for the sun He made.
Purple is for the hours of sorrow.
Pink is for our new tomorrow.
A bag full of jelly beans,
colourful and sweet.
It's a prayer, a promise, and a child's treat.
May the risen Lord Bless you
this Easter and always

empty tomb craft

Make an Easter garden

(Guidelines 1-1-all)

Use an old vegetable tray, cover with moss or "peace in the home". Add some stones for a pathway and an empty egg shell for the tomb. Take two small twigs and tie them together like a cross. Plant the cross in the moss/peace in the home. Say a prayer to thank Jesus for dying for our sins.

Resurrection or Empty Tomb Cookies

(Guidelines 2-2-3)

Another popular Christian Easter activity for kids is the making of tomb cookies. Download the recipe and directions here.

Understanding Passover

(Guidelines 2-2-3)

Older children may want to know why Jesus was in Jerusalem at this time. Take your Christian Easter studies deeper by doing these Passover activities with your children.

In the Northern Hemisphere, Easter is normally around spring...so be sure to look at my toddler spring activities
