Let us Help You Find the Perfect Phonics Reading Program for Your Child's Needs

A good phonics reading program will give your kids an educational advantage and help them learn to read in an easy and enjoyable way. But there are so many phonics programs available these days, so how do you know which one to choose? We’ve reviewed some of the more popular phonics reading programs to help you make an educated choice. We’d love to hear your favorites as well.

Here are some things to consider when looking for the best phonics reading program for teaching:

  • First and foremost, it has to be engaging and interesting for your kids. If they are bored or disinterested it’s like throwing money away. Find programs that offer phonics lessons in a friendly, animated, colorful way – and make sure it’s interactive to get your kids involved.
  • Find a program that provides lessons tailored to your child’s individual needs. If it’s too easy or too advanced, your kids won’t get any benefit from the program.
  • Once you purchase the program will you be expected to buy any additional materials such as books, membership fees, games, worksheets, or games? You should know in advance what the program includes.
  • Does the program only teach phonics without any regard to sight words or reading comprehension? This is important because learning how to read a word without understanding what the word means doesn’t really have any value.
  • Does the program allow you to sample the lessons prior to buying and what is their guarantee policy if you don’t like it for any reason?
  • Does the program provide any assessment reports for parents to let you know how your kids are doing and if there are any areas where they need extra help?
  • Does the program provide help for struggling readers or kids with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, ADD, or autism? Some programs are much better than others for kids with special needs.

Using Phonics To Teach Children To Read

Using a Phonic Game helps your preschooler to understand the relationship between each letter and the sounds they make.

This provides your child with an excellent foundation for reading and spelling skills.

Usually a Nursery Settings would start the basics of a Preschool Reading Program.

This would normally involve your child learning the sound and shape of each letter, before learning the letter's name.

At our Nursery we found that a great way to start teaching phonics to our preschool group was by using the LetterLand books and music CD.

This is because children weren't pressured into learning, they simply enjoyed the stories of each letter, and loved singing along with the CD.

Once the children started to become familiar with the LetterLand characters, they started to notice that almost everything in the picture started with that characters letter.

This is a great way of making your child think about the sound of each letter, and what other words have similar sounds.
